    Frequently Asked Questions

    For Visitors

I am trying to locate my familytree, where can I find it?

You must have been invited by someone you know, who also must have given you an URL. This is an address which when you type it in the address-bar of your browser, will lead you automatically to your own familytree.
You may also use the Find Family menu.

Ok, I typed the URL and what next?

    Now you see three panes before you;
On the left you see a menu displaying all of your options
In the middle pane you see on the top the oldest registered ancestor. The person with the largest font-size we call the subject. At any time this pane contains the subject, right below the subject you see the subjects partner. Right above the subject you can see the subjects parents. Above the parents, you see all the registered (male) ancestors. Below the subjects partner, below the arrow, you see the subjects offspring.
Male persons in this list are shown on a blue-ish background, female persons in this pane are shown in a pinkish background.
Any person you see can be clicked on, and as soon as you click the person, this person becomes the new subject
Depending on the settings of your familytree you may also see the age of the offspring, either to current date or at the time of their decease.
If a person is deceased, you see a cross behind his or her name.
If the person deceased at the age of zero or one, you see a crib with a small cross bihind that persons name.

When I type in the URL and press Enter, the address changes but the address changes into some strange address.

That is correct, the subdomain of your familytree is used so that people can remember it more easilly. You should however be at your familytree, despite of the strange address.

When I use the contact-form, is the mail sent to My3.NL or to the maintainer of my familytree?

When using the contact-form on My3.NL, your mail goes to the maintainer of this site (My3.NL). The contact-form you can select when you are browsing, puts you into contact with the owner of your familytree. The owner is the one who applied for it on this site.

When I type in the URL I was given, I get to see details of someone I don't know

Typing in the URL will redirect you to the earliest ancestor registered by the owner of the familytree.

How can I find myselfe in the familytree

We have not yet implemented a search function, so you have to navigate your way to the person you want to see. You do this by clicking on the child

    For MyTree Owners

Why can't I register my wifes parents?

Sorry, your wife has a different familyname, so her parents would come back in her familytree

I have registered a person by mistake, can I delete the person from the familytree?

Yes you can. But if you registered by accident also offspring to this person, you have to remove them first, one by one.

Can I also register my wifes familytree here ?

Of course you can. Your will have two logins and two passwords. Of course you can choose to keep them the same.

Someone seems to be mocking me; he enters completely bogus data

You will get an e-mail on any change to your familytree which you did not do yourselfe. This e-mail also contains a link by means of which you can undo the change. The mail also contains the ID of the person who changed the data. I suggest you get into contact with this person. His login code may have been compromised, in which case you may change his login and password.

I do know my grandfathers name, and also his brothers name, but not their fathers name. Can I still add my grandfathers brother to my familytree ?

You can only do that by entering their father first. You may choose a name like "Unknown".

    For Maintainers

I have entered a person by mistake but now I can't undo that

Correct, deletion of persons from the tree can only be performed by the owner. You will have to use the contact-form to ask him to do the deletion for you.

I know the name of the father of the oldest ancestor in my tree but I can't add him to the tree

That is correct, only the familytree owner may add ancestors.
